NEWS
REVISION OF THE HYGIENIC PRACTICE IN NATURAL MINERAL WATERS

The 8th session of  the Codex Committee on Natural Mineral Waters changed the acceptable limits for the presence of some substances and pointed out the need to revise hygienic practice for natural mineral waters. Later, the Codex Commission requested the Committee on Food Hygiene to consider if this was relevant. At its 40th session in Guatemala (Dec. 2008), the CCFH agreed to establish a working group to revise the Recommended International Code of Hygienic Practice for Collecting, Processing and Marketing of Natural Mineral Waters (CAC/RCP 33-1985). The working group will be led by Switzerland and will work only in English. The first documents are expected to be circulated within the next few months. Argentina will take part in this working group.

CCLAC PLATFORM OF PROJECTS
As agreed at the last CCLAC meeting, the CCLAC Platform for projects to improve food safety is available for download. Countries of the Latin America and Caribbean will be able to develop projects considering one or some of its components at the subregional or regional level. Countries may apply for funding by international organizations like FAO, IICA, etc. We encourage countries to develop new projects or proposals about this platform.

The CCLAC Coordinator invites the Secretariat of the Commission and of Codex subsidiary bodies to electronically forward the conference room documents (CRDs) that are distributed at physical meetings only in paper.

The aim of this initiative is to facilitate access to information by all Codex Members and Observers that cannot attend meetings and to promote transparency -one of the guiding principles of Codex work.
